Supporting long-term marine research and conservation in Western Australia.

The Marine Sustainability Fund (MSF), established by the Foundation for the WA Museum, provides sustained support for the Western Australian Museum’s marine research, field expeditions, and collections.

Since 2024, the MSF has enabled high-impact work across aquatic zoology, maritime archaeology, coral reef monitoring, and marine genetics. A key 2025 highlight was a joint Aquatic Zoology and Maritime Archaeology expedition to the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, documenting new and previously unrecorded species, surveying historic shipwrecks, and confirming that Abrolhos corals remained in good condition despite the 2024-2025 marine heatwave.
