World Ocean Day on June 8 provides an annual moment to draw the Western Australian community’s attention to our extraordinarily diverse marine environment, and to motivate everyone – from school children to thought leaders – to take specific, meaningful action to keep our big blue backyard healthy, productive, and accessible to all.

We believe there is a significant opportunity to tap into the abiding passion that so many Western Australians have for the ocean, and channel that interest and conviction to support the next wave of ocean and coastal conservation priorities. WA World Ocean Day is our commitment to making that happen.

WA World Ocean Day 2026

This year’s event at Gage Roads Fremantle was our biggest and most successful yet. Over 700 people came through the doors on wintery June Monday night, a number that speaks for itself. With event registrations reaching capacity well before the day, demand for WA World Ocean Day has never been stronger.

Six of WA’s leading ocean scientists and storytellers took to the stage across two panels - Wild West Waters and Turning Tides. Beyond the panels, the evening was brought to life by stallholders from across WA’s marine science, conservation and community sectors, Roger Swainston’s Rock Lobsters of the World exhibition, and the Blank Walls coral mural - a piece of community art created live throughout that stopped people in their tracks.

WA World Ocean Day has cemented its place as one of the most important gatherings in the WA marine calendar - a night where science, storytelling, art and community come together around a shared love of the ocean.
